The Greenburgh Police Department wants you stay cool and safe, and reminds you to please check on our vulnerable populations during periods of extreme heat, especially children, the elderly, disabled persons and people with special needs, and pets.
This advisory may be extended through early next week as current forecasts are calling for extreme heat, as reported here by Daily Voice.
In Greenburgh, cooling centers will be available and opened if needed at:
- The Theodore D. Young Community Center- 32 Manhattan Avenue, White Plains, New York 10603.
- Anthony F. Veteran Park Multi-Purpose Room- 11 Olympic Lane, Ardsley, New York 10502
- Please call the Greenburgh Police Department 914-989-1700 if you are in need of a cooling center.
The Village of Croton-on-Hudson has opened two cooling cernters:
- The Community Room at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building as a cooling center for those residents who need to beat the heat. The room will be unstaffed and will remain open 24/7 until the heat wave breaks.
- The Croton Free Library, located at 171 Cleveland Drive, is also available for residents who need a place to cool down during their normal business hours. Click here for current hours.
Also in Croton, the hours for Silver Lake are as follows: Monday - Friday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 10 a..m. to 7:30 p.m. All users of Silver Lake must have purchased a season permit. To purchase your permit, please contact the Recreation Dept. at 914-271-3006.
As with all heat waves, the possibility exists for power outages/brownouts. Should you lose power, please report the outage to Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED as well as the Croton Police Department at 914-271-5177.
